The warp is the structure, the base upon which a weaving is made. The WEFT is the thread that is woven over and under the warp, and which gives a textile its unique qualities and character.
WeftWorks is the project of multi-disciplinary artist Sarah Carr. Incorporating myriad art forms, including fiber art, dance, object performance, and puppetry, WeftWorks aims to create one-of-a-kind theater experiences that transport and transform the spectator.
Mistress of the maze
Some archeologists have speculated that the Minoans of ancient Crete had a truly matriarchal society. Mistress of the Maze explores the rituals depicted in Minoan frescos, sculptures, and seals and the principle of female power embodied therein. The piece features dancers in contemporary, stylized masks and costumes based on Minoan iconography like the sacred bull, the Minoan genii, and the Mistress of Animals.
